Ortaköy Mosque

Symbol of the Bosphorus
It is also known as the Great Mecidiye Mosque because it was built by Sultan Abdülmecid in 1854. The mosque was built in 1721 on a mosque built by Mahmud Ağa, the son-in-law of Vizier İbrâhim Pasha.

Its architect is Nigoğos Balyan, one of the famous architects of the period. Nigoğos Balyan, a member of the famous architect family Balyan who added many works to Istanbul, is also the architect of buildings such as Dolmabahçe Saat Tower, Çırağan Palace, Ihlamur Pavilion and Adile Sultan Pavilion.

Ortaköy Mosque, built with a very elegant architecture, is in baroque style. Ortaköy Mosque, which is among the most symbolic mosques of Istanbul and the Bosphorus with its unique location and architecture, has two minarets with one balcony. Its outer walls are made of white cut stone.
